Your State of Mind Matters

Self-defense is not merely about the physical techniques.  More important are the state of mind and emotional response and how an individual works through them to meet the threat.

Right now around the world people are seeking defensive abilities through martial arts and self-defense training.  Some will attend classical dojos, and some will enroll in an MMA gym.  Others will take boxing lessons or sign up for a defense course.  But many will gain technical skills that will not transition to a real violent attack scenario.

Aggressive and direct people will easily employ the methods of these powerful martial arts.  But is that you?

No training will change who you are at the root.  Your personality needs to be considered as you embark on the journey toward safety and confidence.  Any training you take on needs to be consistent with who you are and what you want.

By learning to use your innate natural reactions as the foundation for defense, you will gain a fast, reliable, and effective means of facing an attacker.  But most martial systems do not take this approach.  It’s important for you to take the right steps if you are to achieve defensive skill in a short amount of time.

Awaken Your Inner Warrior: The 3D’s

1.  Discover
Gain an accurate understanding of the ability you already have.  You don’t need to spend years breaking down natural habits to build new muscle memory (more on the myth of muscle memory to come).

2.  Discern

Find the value and defensive application of your natural movements as you appreciate the power that is within.

3.  Develop
Work to learn how to bridge the reaction to the defensive movements that follow.  This is where you will accelerate and achieve your objective to walk safely in the world.

You have great power within, and you can learn to apply it for your protection.  Just remember that the state of mind and emotional side of who you are should not be ignored.  When faced with a violent attack no technique you learn will trigger unless it works from your natural state of mind.

Stand!
